June 1959: Ending Our Senior Year Together

From our Oahuan 1959 Yearbook:

"We are more than 300... but we are one. We are the Class of 1959.

When we remember our graduation we shall reflect upon the days and months and years which preceded our final hours at Punahou. Many were the happy times, now and then tinged with little sorrows, not insignificant in their contribution to our growth. We shall recall our goals as scholastic honors, curtain calls, athletic championships, fair government, self-satisfaction; although diverse in interest, all leading to the development of our maturity and stature. We shall long remember the friendships which were ours, the teachers and classmates who grew together in understanding, and the spiritual guidance so freely offered to us.

In appreciation of this personal heritage found at Punahou, may we go forth in strength toward a goal of fulfillment and peace, striving to preserve the ideals and values which have been entrusted to us."

Baccalaureate Sermon: "The Choice" by Rev. Kenneth O. Rewick

"I Would Be True" (sung during the service):

I would be true, for there are those who trust me.

I would be pure, for there are those who care,

I would be strong for there is much to suffer.

I would be brave for there is much to dare, I would be brave for there is much to dare.

I would be friend to all the foe, the friendless.

I would be giving, and forget the gift.

I would be humble, for I know my weakness.

I would look up and laugh, and love, and lift, I would look up, and laugh, and love and lift. Amen
