Historical footnotes:
We all purchased our own record of the wonderful music we sang together in 1959. Remember the blue record with the unmarked white cover?
Frank Young carried around his Punahou '59 graduation record for 35 years through all his moves. When he retired to the hills of Tennessee after a 30 year career in the U.S. Air Force, Frank made a cassette tape copy from the original record and finally was able to dispose of the bulky record player he had also been lugging around for 35 years. (Remember having to replace the needle on occasion and the problems with stacking and handling the bulky records?)
Frank mailed a cassette tape copy of the copy to Jon. Jon played the tape on his cassette player and recorded the songs into his PC computer at home. He then transferred them to the main Punahou '59 web site computer over the Internet. Now when you click/select each song above, an electronic copy of the song is transferred over the Internet.
We have recently re-recorded the music from an original record to a CD to improve the quality. See below if you want to order your own CD.
Thanks Frank for the memories. We are sure you planned it that way all along.
"We did well as a choir, don't you think? I can see all of us in Dillingham after school, many not wanting to be there, with Miss Murray nailing the guys who fussed around, expecting us to pay attention (and sharply addressing those individuals who did not), and with high expectations and no patience for disrespect. She was a wonder at getting us to produce such beautiful sounds together and the better we got the better we felt about singing our hearts out. That old self-confidence, you can do it, you are not as ill equipped as you think, simple lessons one learns through love and patience from a loving teacher. Same as Mrs. Flanders getting us uncoordinated, self conscious ones to actually do something in the Variety Show, even if it meant being a Potato or a Green Pepper." Diane Devereux (Ackerson)
